The Richard (Dick Lauber) Scholarship was created in recognition of, and in the memory of the Chairman of the Board for the Masonry Council. He held that position for over 30 years.
Dick Lauber was the President of J.&E. Duff, Inc. In addition to serving as the Chairman for the Masonry Advisory Council and Illinois Masonry Institute Promotion Trust, he was extremely active in our industry and served on many boards.
Dick held in high esteem, his relationship between management and labor and acted as a liaison between the contractors and the union. He was well known for his even-tempered responses even in the most stressful situations. His desire for his workers to be treated fairly was always a top priority.
In his exceptional career he valued the expansion of masonry and took great pride in the building that his skilled craftworkers successfully executed. Those buildings serve the communities as a remaining tribute, providing a timeline that was built from the stunning designs of many talented Chicago Architects.
This scholarship is an ongoing effort to continue the legacy of giving and generosity that exemplified Dicks Lauber’s life.
Our industry is better for having had him in it, and we will miss him!
